Getting Robbed of Privacy in Order to Save Lives Lost in Speeding Accidents

13 November 2013. Professor Holda Association is launching the second edition of the Moot Court on Polish Constitutional Law. This year, students and young lawyers will discuss the intersection of traffic laws, technology, and privacy.

All founders of INPRIS belong to the Professor Holda Association (plus Filip sits on the management board). Thus, we're rooting for the success of the Moot Court (see its web site in Polish).

The Problem:

1. Under a hypothetical Polish law, within 5 years, owners of cars, trucks, and motorbikes are obliged to install a device which monitors the speed and position of the vehicle.

2. If the vehicle is speeding, the device records the incident and automatically reports it to the authorities. The device will send updated reports every 2 minutes should the vehicle keep on speeding.

3. The owner of the vehicle is punished with an administrative fine for each reported incident.

Already more than a decade ago similar solutions were contemplated in the UK.

What a disgusting system.

If loss of privacy is disgusting, how about loss of life?
