Explanations relating to the Charter

Explanations relating to the Charter of Fundamental Rights were issued in 2007 by f the Praesidium of the European Convention. Although they do not as such have the status of law, they are a valuable tool of interpretation intended to clarify the provisions of the Charter

Strategy for the implementation of the Charter

To ensure that the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights is respected at all times, I put in place a system for a Fundamental Rights screening of all Commission's proposals, included in the 2010 Strategy for the implementation of the Charter.

2012 Report on the Application of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights

The Directorate-General for Justice of the European Commission monitors the process of implementation of the Charter in all member states. This activity is based on the Strategy for the effective implementation of the Charter of Fundamental Rights by the European Union. The monitoring results in annual reports, the most up-dated one  is from 2012 is available, the reports from previous years are available at DG website.

The Fundamental Rights Agency

The Fundamental Rights Agency publishes reports on fundamental rights situation in the EU and points abuses. It also created Charterpedia that gathers information on certain provisions and the jurisprudence of the Court of Justice of European Union and other community courts.

Eurobarometr research

The fundamental rights awareness of the EU citizens can be assessed by analysing the results of Eurobarometr research. Eurobarometr is the agenda of the European Commission that deals with public opinion analysis.
