INPRIS is a legal think tank

6 June 2012. Thirty-six minutes is the reaction time of the Polish Supreme Court to reply to the request for public information, and send the text of a recent opinion.

by Filip Wejman

I had the opportunity to experience the efficiency of the Polish Supreme Court's office for public information.

Yesterday, the press reported a recent, unpublished, important decision of the Supreme Court, dealing with information duties of a bank when it accepts a bill of exchange as a security for credit.

Today, at 11:56 AM, I sent as a private citizen a one-sentence request to ref.inf.publ at sn.pl. I asked to receive by e-mail the decision and the opinion. I received the document (anonymized) at 12:32 PM.

I think the time of reply is magnificent. It shows good infrastructure and skills of the staff. I hope we will soon enjoy in Poland a public, free access to most court opinions in searchable format - without bothering the courts with requests but automatically published on the Internet.
