Call for Proposals: Legislation Game

15 March 2012. What is a great topic for game that teaches hight school students about the legislative process? Internet piracy, drugs, GMOs, school holidays? What would YOU suggest as the topic of the law that students should explore in the game?

PGS and INPRIS are working on a game on legislation. The target is high school students. Rules of the game involve sophisticated interaction between political players, media, NGOs etc. The project is sponsored by the Trust for Civil Society in Central and Eastern Europe, and is part of our interest in the quality of legislative process in Poland.

The scenario will be focused around a draft law making its way through the government and parliament.

The proposed law will deal with an abstract topic (like: colors, numbers etc.) or a concrete problem (like: intellectual property in the Internet, preference for public transport, rescue for failing banks, drug legalization, death penalty, counter-terrorism measures etc.).

We have a list of exciting topics to be explored but would be happy to see more.

With this invitation we set out to publicly solicit other proposals for laws that can make a great game. Should you have an idea, and would like to share it with us, please let us know.

The topic of the proposed law shou

  • draw interest of high school students;
  • allow for contrasting positions taken by several players (more than 2);
  • stimulate discussion in which players can reasonably argue for their
  • positions;
  • remain interesting for a while as we are not looking for a one season hit;
  • allow for involvement without expert preparation.

Humor of the concept makes an additional cherry.

We will be most grateful for receiving comments not later than 25 March 2012.
