INPRIS organizes the visit of Professor Hans Peter Graver in Poland on 10-12 January 2019 (Thursday-Saturday). It seems to us that this is a great opportunity to meet with academic community, judges, lawyers and other interested people. Professor Graver for several years has been investigating the situation of judges under pressure, in a situation of threats to judicial independence. So far, he has been studying number of other countries, currently he is beginning to study post-communist states.

Below, please find a handful of information about the project, which is led by prof. Graver, and list of his chosen publications that may interest Polish audience.

About the project

Judges under Stress (JuS) - the Breaking Point of Judicial Institutions

How do rulers seek judicial compliance with authoritarian measures, how do judges react to such measures, and what are the conditions under which an independent judiciary breaks down? We will address these questions from the perspective of institutional theory, looking at the experiences of Central and Eastern European states under communist rule. We will compare these experiences with experiences from other countries.
