Country workshops in the Balkans – NGOs and the Judiciary

30 May 2016. In the framework of the project ‘NGOs and the Judiciary’ three partner organizations from the Balkans conducted country workshops in order to present the outcomes of the project and to provide a platform for discussion on the local level.

On 10 March 2016, the Albanian Helsinki Committee (Albania) conducted a seminar entitled: "Replying to inquiries from clients, legal counseling concerning both natural and legal persons (esp. municipalities), drafting legal documents (f. ex. petitions and legal opinions)". The workshop gathered 20 participants.

Also on 10 March 2016, YUCOM (Serbia) presented outcomes of the project during a workshop "Judicial Portals in the Mirror" gathering 17 participants and speakers representing legal practitioners, as well as NGO representatives.

On 11 March 2016, Coalition “All for Fair Trials” (Macedonia) organized a country workshop under the topic: "NGOs and the Judiciary: Watch Dog Activities, Interaction, Cooperation and Communication". The discussions attracted 13 participants and speakers representing local judiciary.

The overall aim of the project is to gather and share good practices in area of cooperation between NGOs and judiciary, especially civic monitoring of judiciary, with focus on Western Balkans countries. We observe that NGOs are getting more and more involved in various activities related to judiciary (also cooperation projects) and many of these activities are various forms of monitoring. We find it extremely inspiring and useful to discover how this issue is addressed in other countries.  The project can be divided into three phases – research, study visit in Poland combined with a meeting of all partners and workshops in Western Balkans.

The project is funded by International Visegrad Fund and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea
